Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels became the competition show's most well-known trainers

The Biggest Loser wasn't just a hit for NBC — it also helped launch the careers of several trainers.

The competition show put participants through a grueling 30-week boot camp run by a lineup of coaches — most famously Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels. Along the way, contestants followed strict workout routines and nutrition plans, all in pursuit of one goal: to drop the most weight and walk away with $250,000.

The Biggest Loser debuted in 2004 and ran for 18 seasons. The competition series is the subject of Netflix's Fit for TV: The Reality of The Biggest Loser, which premiered on Aug. 15. The three-part docuseries delves into the darker side of NBC's reality show, interviewing former cast and crew members about the ethical and health implications of the series' extreme weight-loss methods.

Several producers and former contestants participated in Fit for TV, but Harper was the only trainer who made the final cut.

"Always remember we were trying to make an entertaining show," he said in the docuseries. "What's more important for weight loss? We all know it's diet, but that becomes boring television. You know what's not boring television? To see us in a gym yelling, screaming ... and producers loved that s---. They were like, 'We want them to puke! We want the madness of it all!' "

Here's everything to know about where The Biggest Loser trainers are today.

Harper is practically synonymous with The Biggest Loser. He trained contestants for the first 16 seasons and hosted the final two of the show's 18-season run.

Between seasons 17 and 18, Harper suffered a heart attack that left him unconscious for two days in February 2017.

"It was one of the hardest things I've ever gone through," he said on Fit for TV. "I couldn't walk around the block. I know what it's like to have to look at everything that I eat and have to change how I live and what I do."

In January 2025, Harper returned to reality TV as a contestant on NBC's The Traitors season 3, ultimately finishing in 15th place.

He's now in his "retirement era," he told The Guardian in August 2025. He still teaches hot yoga in New York City.

In June 2019, Harper got married to husband Anton Gutierrez. The couple share three dogs named Karl, Vivienne and Ralph.

Michaels became a household name as a coach on The Biggest Loser, serving as a trainer for 12 of the show's 18 seasons.

Her fame on the series led to a spinoff on NBC titled Losing It with Jillian, which ran for one season in 2010.

After leaving The Biggest Loser for good in 2014, Michaels reflected on her decision in an interview with PEOPLE.

"In the beginning of the show, it was [about] tough love. You saw the tough, and you saw the love," she said, explaining that she felt her portrayal in later seasons depicted her as being harsh, rather than helpful. "You saw none of the relationships, none of the bonds that I build with my clients."

Nowadays, Michaels is focused on the growth of her podcast, Keeping It Real: Conversations with Jillian Michaels, and her app Jillian Michaels: The Fitness App.

As for her personal life, Michaels is a mom of two children, whom she shares with her ex-fiancée, Heidi Rhoades. She married her wife, fashion designer DeShanna Marie Minuto, in 2022.

Over the years, Michaels has also made headlines for her political views. On Aug. 14, she defended her stances on President Donald Trump and White people during a heated debate about slavery on CNN NewsNight with Abby Phillip.
