A day after missing a planned appearance at the Primetime Emmy Awards, Euphoria and Grey's Anatomy star Eric Dane is sharing a call to action for ALS research and advocacy.
The 52-year-old performer, who disclosed in April that he'd been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, posted a heartfelt video to social media Monday introducing himself as "an actor, a father, and now a person living with ALS."
"For over a century," he continued, "ALS has been incurable, and we're done accepting the status quo. We need the fastest path to a cure, and that's why I partnered with I Am ALS on the Push for Progress. Our goal: a billion dollars over the next three years."

Wearing a T-shirt with the I Am ALS logo, Dane went on to lobby for legislation, funding, and expanded access to treatments.
"Together, we'll renew the landmark law Act for ALS, give promising treatments to thousands of patients like me, and finally, finally, push towards ending this disease," he said. "There's so much more to learn, more to do, and we have to do it now. Visit the link below to donate, get involved, and be a part of pushing for progress."
On Sunday, Dane had been scheduled to present at the Emmys alongside his Grey's Anatomy costar Jesse Williams, as part of a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the medical drama. However, Dane dropped out of the telecast and Williams presented the segment solo.
Representatives for Dane didn't respond to Entertainment Weekly's requests for comment about his absence.
Speaking to reporters after the ceremony wrapped Sunday, Emmys producer Jesse Collins said he didn't know any details. "I just was told that he wasn't able to make it," Collins said, per Variety. "And fortunately, Jesse was able to present by himself."

Collins also told Entertainment Tonight that the producers were informed "early on" that Dane "wasn't gonna be able to make it," so they opted to scrap the plans for a Grey's reunion and have Williams handle things on his own.
ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, is a progressive and fatal nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, causing loss of muscle control, according to the Mayo Clinic. It affects patients' ability to breathe, speak, and move. There is no cure, though some patients can live decades.
