The Golden Bachelor season 2 premiere got off with a bang — or actually, not a bang because poor Peg's bomb did not go off, and it was so awkward.
Speaking of awkward, the show addressed Mel's comments about his contestants' ages right off the bat, which was the only way to handle it. Luckily, Mel seems pretty sincere that he truly did not understand what these women's ages would be, and since his ex-wife is nearly 20 years his junior, what he said makes a lot of sense.
First Impression Rose
The women all made a pretty good first impression — nobody really biffed it, though some definitely stood out more than others. Carla was nice and spicy in a fun, flirty way, while Cheryl's entrance on a motorcycle was terrific.
Gerri also marked my first tears shed of the season when she was talking about losing her husband to an aneurysm when he was just 47 and leaving her alone with their three kids. Oof, that's really hard.
It's not a huge surprise that Gerri received the First Impression Rose. Mel was so touched by her opening up about her situation and not doing things for herself in a really long time. Great choice, Mel!

Who went home during the first Rose Ceremony on The Golden Bachelor premiere?
After the cocktail party, Mel was given 16 roses (in addition to the First Impression Rose) to hand out, meaning six women were getting cut right away.
The roses went to Peg, Carla, Terri, Cheryl, Nicolle, Cindy, Amy, Alexandra, Monica P, Mylene, Carol, Roxanne, Monica B, Robin, Diane and Debbie.
Shout-out to eliminated contestant Tracy for her absolutely stunning hat and black and white dress. She looked fabulous.

The One-on-One Date
Cheryl got the one-on-one date, which involved her getting to pick out super fancy clothing. She started tearing up because she's always been a tomboy, and she never gets to be so fancy. She picked an absolutely drop-dead gorgeous red dress, and at least a few of the other women were super excited for her and helped her get ready.
But when Mel arrived, before Cheryl came out, Nicolle got all over Mel, calling him her "husband" and kissing him on the lips. Whoa, girl. Have some chill.
The date took them to the Queen Mary down in San Diego, where they had a fancy dinner on the ship. They bonded over their parents — Mel lost his dad, while Cheryl cares for her 93-year-old mother. She also revealed that her husband Mike left her when her son was born — the husband just never showed up at the hospital when she went into labor! Then her husband came back a year later and basically kidnapped her son! They were missing for a week! That is absolutely horrifying.
But she found it in her heart to forgive Mike, and then her son had a good relationship with his father until the dad died about 12 years ago. OH MY GOD. I am crying again. What a person Cheryl is. What an absolutely jaw-dropping story.
Group Date

The group date took the women to the Memorial Coliseum, which is the original home of the LA Rams, where Mel played in the 1980s. But the date made the ladies be NFL cheerleaders led by the amazing Paula Abdul, a former Laker Girl. And Cindy got to reveal that she was a Dallas Mavericks dancer 30 years ago! That's amazing.
The cheer squads were Peg, Monica B, Mylene, Diane, Nicolle, Robin, Alexandra, and Roxanne on the yellow team, and Carla, Amy, Gerri, Carol, Cindy, Monica P, Debbie, and Terri on the blue team. Weirdly, Alexandra didn't perform with the yellow team, and they didn't explain why, but the blue team won, so they got to stay on the date with Mel.
Cindy and Monica P both made a really good impression on the continued date, but Cindy got the rose — she and Mel did have quite the make-out sesh during their one-on-one time.

Who went home during the second Rose Ceremony of The Golden Bachelor season 2 premiere?
There was one last pool party before the second Rose Ceremony. Diane wrote a poem, they danced, there were squirt guns, but most of the women did not get in the pool — they didn't want to get their hair wet.
But Nicolle continued to monopolize Mel's time and climb all over him and kiss him all the time in front of everyone. It's a lot, honestly, and it rubbed a lot of the other women the wrong way. Even Mel, at one point, said to her to take it easy. Seriously, Nicolle, get a grip.

At the second Rose Ceremony, there were 11 roses to give out, in addition to Cheryl and Cindy already having roses.
The 11 roses went to Roxanne, Debbie, Gerri, Monica P, Monica B, Carol, Peg, Nicolle, Robin, Amy and Terri.
That means the four women eliminated at the second Rose Ceremony were:
CarlaLos Angeles, CaliforniaFormer Model, 62DianeWasilla, AlaskaLibrarian, 71MyleneLas Vegas, NevadaCasino VIP Host, 61AlexandraMiami, FloridaLuxury Yacht Sales Representative, 67
If they don't bring Carla back for something, that's a damn shame because she is a smoke show and seems super cool.
After this week's two-hour premiere, The Golden Bachelor will begin airing in its usual timeslot, which is Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and streaming the next day on Hulu.
