Garcia, the reigning WBC welterweight champion, claimed Wednesday in a series of social media posts that he and retired Hall of Famer Mayweather have verbally agreed to a 147-pound bout for Garcia's world title .
Trust me at first I thought this was bull*** But it's real Floyd and I agree to a fight 147 for the WBC welterweight championship of the world 50-0 vs The current champ
Just got off the phone with @floydmayweather. Talking about fighting - it's real and he wants to do a real fight 147. He and I both agreed to post this! Let's Rumble
This will be for the 147 WBC world championship I made that very clear and Floyd and I agreed to fight.
No serious negotiations for Garcia vs. Mayweather have taken place at the time of this writing, sources close the situation told Uncrowned's Darshan Desai on Wednesday.
A potential bout between the two has continued to be pushed by Garcia, 28, in recent weeks, stemming from an alleged challenge by Mayweather, 49, who has yet to comment publicly on the matter.
Mayweather (50-0, 27 KOs) last fought as a professional in his 2017 crossover bout against Conor McGregor, which remains one of the highest-selling pay-per-views of all time. Mayweather has competed in eight exhibition bouts since, and was briefly scheduled to come out of retirement for a late 2026 rematch against his old rival, Manny Pacquiao, however that fight ultimately fell apart.
Garcia (26-2, 21 KOs) is one of boxing's biggest U.S. names. He captured the WBC welterweight title with a dazzling win over Mario Barrios in February, then defended it with a second-round knockout of Conor Benn in September.
It remains to be seen whether Garcia vs. Mayweather actually materializes, but for now, any talks of the cross-generational fight being booked are premature.
