Rosie O'Donnell, the liberal actress and comic, apologized on social media Sunday after falsely claiming the Minneapolis Catholic church school shooter was a MAGA supporter, a Republican and a white supremacist.

Last Thursday, O'Donnell posted a video after learning about the attack that left two children dead and 18 others injured, 15 of them kids.

The comedian said the violence reminded her of the Columbine massacre in 1999, when she struggled to comprehend that American students were shooting each other in schools.

Regarding the Minneapolis shooting, O'Donnell pointed out it took place inside a Catholic school and added: "What do you know? It was a white guy, Republican, MAGA person. What do you know? White supremacists."

What Leads Someone To Commit A Mass Shooting? Trump Admin, Rfk Jr Plan To Find Out

Rosie O'Donnell has been one of President Donald Trump's most prominent critics in the entertainment industry.

By Sunday, O'Donnell walked back her comments, admitting she was wrong about the shooter's identity.

"I knew a lot of you were very upset about the video I made before I went away for a few days," she said in a new video, adding that she did not have time to read through the comments until Sunday. "You are right. I did not do my due diligence before I made that emotional statement, and I said things about the shooter that were incorrect.

"I assumed, like most shooters, they followed a standard MO and had standard, you know, feelings of… you know, NRA-loving kind of gun people," O'Donnell continued. "Anyway, the truth is I messed up, and when you mess up, you fess up. I'm sorry. This is my apology video and I hope it's enough."

Minneapolis Police Reveal More About Church School Shooter's Motive

Rosie O'Donnell photographed in Ireland after her comedy set.

Her apology drew sharp criticism online. One user called it "the most unapologetic apology ever." Another wrote, "She's not sorry, she still means exactly what she said." A third said she was "trying to save face, because she opened her mouth and was so wrong."

In the comments, O'Donnell replied to one critic, writing, "I was wrong - and I apologize - what more do [you] want?"

Others said the misstep reflected a bigger problem. "It's good that you apologized, but this is what is keeping this country so divided," one person wrote. "So much mistruths being spread by both sides. People need to fact check every single political thing that they see because the majority of it is a lie."

Minneapolis Church Shooter's Mother Refuses To Talk To Police After Deadly Attack On Children

A memorial honoring shooting victims sits outside the Annunciation Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on August 28, 2025.

O'Donnell's remarks came less than a week after the gunman opened fire during a Mass at Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis, where students from the attached school were gathered.

The gunfire shattered stained-glass and pew-side windows as students and parishioners ducked for cover.

FBI Director Kash Patel said Thursday the "barbaric" attack appeared to be an act of domestic terrorism "motivated by a hate-filled ideology."

Patel said the shooter's manifesto and writings on firearms expressed anti-Catholic and anti-religious themes, along with violent antisemitic messages. Among them were phrases such as "Israel must fall" and "Free Palestine," alongside Holocaust-related slurs.

"13 Going on 30" star Christa B. Allen shared that she ran away from a cult after ending her romance with its leader.

The 33-year-old actress made the revelation in a video that she shared on TikTok Thursday. In the clip, Allen was seen wearing a beige sweater, a cream-colored miniskirt and brown boots as she spun around with her arms outstretched on a lawn.

The video was set to a part of Chappell Roan's song "Subway" in which the singer repeats the lyrics "She got away."

"How it feels rebuilding your life after being in love with a charismatic wealthy cult leader who burned it to the ground," the "Revenge" star wrote over the clip.

"13 Going on 30" star Christa B. Allen revealed that she left a cult after ending her romance with its leader.

In the caption, Allen further detailed her experience with her former boyfriend, whom she did not name.

"Let me be very clear: nobody can burn down your life unless you give them access to it. That's the part I've had to own," she wrote.

Allen continued, "So I've sat with the hardest questions: why did I trust him? Why did I hand over my power? Why did I silence my own inner knowing?"

The actress reflected on her ex, recalling how he dazzled her with his lavish lifestyle but later showed himself to be deceptive.

"The truth is, he was selling fairytales and from luxurious penthouses and private jets, I foolishly bought in," Allen wrote.

"What I learned is that even if you spend every waking moment with someone— studying, eating, traveling, working, building, dreaming— you still may not KNOW them," she continued. "Especially when you're dealing with someone who lies as easily as they breathe."

Allen promised her fans that she would share more details about her experience in the future.

"That realization shattered me, but it also forced me to rebuild from the ground up. And fire is also cleansing," Allen added.

Allen promised her fans that she would reveal more details about her experience in the future but currently plans to focus on the next chapter of her life.

"One day I'll share the full story but for now I'm walking forward with feet on solid ground and a heart that knows its strength," she wrote.

In a TikTok video that she shared on Aug. 19, Allen appeared to refer to her ex, accusing him of infidelity.

"When the 'spiritual' guy you were dating forced you to quit your job because he promised to take care of you… then left you with zero income while cheating and sleeping around with countless women while lying about it all…," she wrote over a video in which she was seen behind the wheel of a car.

,"But then you remember — he knows the laws of the universe, and the universe don't miss," she added.

Allen's first movie role was playing the younger version of Jennifer Garner's character Jenna Rink in the 2004 romantic comedy "13 Going on 30."

The actress also played the younger version of Garner in "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past."

The actress once again played the younger version of Garner's character Jenny Perotti in the 2009 fantasy romantic comedy movie "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past," which was a modern retelling of Charles Dickens' 1843 novella "A Christmas Carol."

She went on to star as socialite Charlotte Grayson in the hit TV drama series "Revenge" from 2011 to 2015.

Allen has also made appearances on Disney Channel TV shows and TV series, including "Grey's Anatomy" and "ER."

In recent years, Allen shifted away from acting and moved more toward social media influencing.

Are you looking for the next big thing in the stock market? There's a chance it's hiding among the small caps, because these smaller companies often remain overlooked by investors. One way to gain exposure to the entire segment of the market is to buy a small-cap ETF.

Topics covered on this page: -

What is a small-cap ETF?

Top-performing small-cap ETFs

Are small-cap ETFs a good investment?

What is a small-cap ETF?

A small-cap ETF is an exchange-traded fund that invests in the market's smallest companies through what are called small-capitalization, or small-cap, stocks. Small-cap ETFs give you an easy way to buy the small-cap "haystack" rather than search through it for the high performers.

Small-cap stocks may sound small, but they're not usually that tiny. The total value of all their shares outstanding is typically between a few hundred million dollars and a few billion dollars. That's small for the stock market, though, where market capitalization can hit a trillion dollars.

Investors like small caps because they can offer higher potential returns than large-cap stocks, which are typically represented by the S&P 500 index. However, because they're smaller and have fewer financial resources, they're often riskier and more volatile, too.

Because of these risks, investing in individual small stocks is better left to more advanced investors. But even newer investors can buy a basket of these companies through a small-cap ETF and take advantage of the potential higher returns in undiscovered small stocks.

Are small-cap ETFs a good investment?

Investing in small-cap ETFs can provide attractive returns as long as they're purchased at sensible prices, but there are some drawbacks to be aware of.

Small-cap ETFs allow you to purchase a diversified portfolio of smaller companies for a relatively low cost. They also won't require the extensive research that investing in individual companies does and can be added to your overall portfolio quickly to boost exposure to the small-cap universe. Small caps can generate high returns as they grow and become larger businesses. Many of today's most successful companies started as small caps.

But one drawback of investing in small-cap ETFs is that as the most successful companies grow, they move on from being considered small-cap and many funds are forced to sell them to stay in line with their investment objectives. You also won't get the broad diversification that comes with other funds, so if an economic development negatively impacts the small-cap universe, you won't be protected. Small-cap funds also tend to be more volatile than funds that hold larger, more established companies.

(You may also want to check our list of the best large-cap ETFs and best mid-cap ETFs.)

Bottom line

Small-cap ETFs are an attractive way to invest in some of the market's fastest-growing companies at low cost without the same risks of buying individual stocks. But like all investments in the stock market, they aren't without risk and other drawbacks.

Editorial Disclaimer: All investors are advised to conduct their own independent research into investment strategies before making an investment decision. In addition, investors are advised that past investment product performance is no guarantee of future price appreciation.

How to choose a brokerage account

The best online stock trading websites offer investor-friendly features and fees traders can easily justify. When it comes to choosing which brokerage account is best for you, consider the following features:

Price: When it comes to fees, you're in luck — fees have been dropping swiftly and most online brokers charge no trading commissions on stocks and ETFs.

Broker resources: You'll also want to consider factors such as research tools, the quality of the digital trading app, and the ability to place trades quickly and reliably, among other details.

Strategy: The account you really want will ultimately come down to your personal investment strategy — including how frequently you plan to trade and whether you're a beginner or are more experienced.

If other features are especially important to you, such as customer support, then be sure to factor those into your decision.

Because the first British settlement in Australia was a penal colony, there wasn't much need for coins or currency. As The Perth Mint noted in a blog, authorities envisioned a "self-sufficient settlement" where convicts worked for free and everyone (including jailers) got food and supplies from the government store. Australia eventually adopted its own currency, and now some of its rare coins can make you very rich.

Australian currency was originally based on British pounds, shillings and pence. That changed in 1966, when the country converted to Australian dollars and cents, similar to the U.S. system. The majority of Australia's most valuable coins were minted before the change.

Rare (and Valuable) Australian Coins

Here's a look at six coins that fetch the highest prices on the collectibles market, according to the CoinValueLookup site.

1930 Proof Penny: Only six of these proof coins were struck at the Melbourne Mint, and three are in museums, which means the three others are highly valued by collectors. One sold at auction in 2009 for an estimated $2 million Australian, which equals about $1.3 million U.S. dollars.

1852 Type 1 Adelaide Pound: These pounds were the first Australian gold coins, which makes them very attractive to collectors and dealers. The 1852 Type 1 version is even more valuable because of a flaw in the die that created a crack in the coin. One version sold for the equivalent of $410,000 USD in 2021.

1813 Holey Dollar: Here's another old coin that ranks as one of the first to be used in Australia, back when British settlers still used it as a penal colony. In 2022, a version sold for the equivalent of about $360,000 USD.

1923 Proof Halfpenny: Only about 15,000 halfpennies were struck for circulation at the Melbourne Mint in 1923, down from well more than 1 million the previous year. The rarity of this coin has pushed its value to more than $340,000 USD.

1920 Square Penny Type 9: The Type 9 version of this coin was unusual because of some of its details as well as the quality of the strike, which was much better than other 1920 specimens. One version sold for $135,000 AUS ($88,000 USD) in 2018.

1813 15-Pence "Dump Struck" with D/2 dies: These coins were made from the silver cut out of the middle of Spanish dollars and became known as "Dumps." The D/2 dies account for about 20% of the coin's minted population. The most valuable versions can fetch about $115,000 USD.

Kelsey Bateman -- a contestant on Bret Michaels' reality show 'Rock of Love' -- has died ... TMZ has learned.

A family sources tells us ... Kelsey passed away unexpectedly recently -- though it's unclear at this time exactly what caused her untimely death. We've reached out to local authorities for more information.

If you don't know "Rock of Love with Bret Michaels," it was a reality television show that ran from 2007 to 2009 ... and followed 25 contestants as they all vied to be Michaels' girlfriend.

Kelsey starred in the third and final season of the show -- titled "Rock of Love Bus with Bret Michaels" -- on which the ladies lived on tour buses and traveled with Michaels.

Kelsey made it all the way to the final nine women ... but was eliminated in dramatic fashion in the 7th episode.

Bateman showed up to the elimination drunk with several other contestants ... telling the cameras she laid on a speed bump and broke down in tears because of the pressures of the show before showing up to the elim.

Bret said he felt Kelsey's actions showed she simply wasn't making smart decision for herself before sending her back to Salt Lake City, Utah.

Bateman was 39.

Josh Duhamel revealed how he's preparing to survive a potential global catastrophe.

During a recent interview with People magazine, the 52-year-old actor reflected on whether his family were ready to weather an apocalypse in their Minnesota home — a spot he calls his "doomsday cabin."

"Well, I have enough," the "Ransom Canyon" star said. "Not 100%. Probably 70%."

Josh Duhamel shared how he plans to ride out a potential apocalypse in his "doomsday cabin."

Duhamel admitted that he still needs sharpen his survival skills so that he could provide a steady source of food in the aftermath of a world-ending event.

Josh Duhamel Left Hollywood Behind To Live Off-grid In Minnesota

"I could be a better hunter, I could be a better fisherman. I could stockpile a little more food supply," he said.

The "Las Vegas" actor previously told Parade that he left Los Angeles behind to live off-grid in the cabin he spent 15 years building.

Duhamel lives in his rustic home in Minnesota with his family.

"The closest store is 40 miles away," he said in April. "Once we get there, it's really about everybody taking care of each other – making memories, spending time with family and friends."

While it took years for Duhamel to build the off-the-grid spot for his family, he said that he is grateful to have the opportunity to "get back to the basics."

"You're not consumed by all these other distractions," Duhamel said. "When you're out there, it's really about having fun, making sure everybody's warm, everybody's got food and water."

The actor lives in the cabin with his wife Audra Mari and their 1-year-old son Shepherd. Duhamel's 11-year-old son Axl, whom he shares with his ex-wife Fergie, also spends time at the home.

Duhamel told People that his home is located about an hour and a half away from Fargo, North Dakota. He explained that he initially purchased a half parcel of land on which he built his home. However, Duhamel said that he later acquired additional land to expand his property.

The actor spent 15 years building his home.

The "Transformers" star recalled that he and his family lived without running water, electricity or other basic amenities for "a long time."

While speaking with the outlet, Duhamel reflected on why he decided to embrace a more rustic lifestyle.

"I make movies and TV shows, and I love it, I truly do love it, but I had this calling," Duhamel explained.

He said that he felt the urge "to go and really do things with my hands again — fix things, make things and just do the basic things that we take for granted."

Duhamel and his ex-wife Fergie share son Axl, 11.

Duhamel told People that his Minnesota retreat also offers a "respite" from "this world of massive technology," noting that the advent of artificial intelligence particularly "scares" him.

However, the actor clarified that his home in North Star state wasn't only intended to be safe haven in the face of a worldwide Armageddon.

Duhamel said that he moved to Minnesota to "stay true to my roots."

"The truth is, yes, people want to call it a doomsday prepper thing, but it's really not that," he told People. "I'm really more of a guy who wants to stay true to my roots, get back to the basics, hone whatever basic skills I need."

"I don't think that we're in any dire situation that we have to worry about prepping for doomsday, but it is good to have some of those skills," Duhamel added.

"I was getting so far away from it for so long, that I felt like I wanted to get back to some of that."

(Reuters) -Russian president Vladimir Putin said on Monday that understandings reached during his summit with U.S. President Donald Trump at a summit in August open a way to find a resolution to the crisis in Ukraine.

"In this regard, we highly appreciate the efforts and proposals from China and India aimed at facilitating the resolution of the Ukrainian crisis," Putin said at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation forum in Tianjin.

"I would also note that the understandings reached at the recent Russia–U.S. meeting in Alaska, I hope, also contribute toward this goal."

The Trump Administration has suspended nearly all types of nonimmigrant visas for Palestinian passport holders, U.S. officials told the New York Times.

The blanket suspension marks an escalation from earlier restrictions on Palestinians seeking to enter the U.S. The policy, issued in an Aug. 18 cable from the State Department to all U.S. embassies and consulates, temporarily suspends visas for medical treatment, university studies, visits to friends or relatives, and business, according to the Times. It is not clear how long the suspension will remain in place.

"While the Department has determined that the Palestinian Authority (PA) is a competent authority for passport issuing purposes … the United States does NOT recognize the PA as a 'foreign government,'" the cable said, according to CNN.

Here's what to know about the new measure.

Policy expands U.S. visa curbs on Palestinians

The internal message reportedly instructed embassies and consulates to deny nonimmigrant visas to "all otherwise eligible Palestinian Authority passport holders." The guidance also applies to Palestinian passport holders applying for diplomatic or official visas, the cable reportedly said.

The cable reportedly instructs officials to invoke section 221-G of the 1952 Immigration and Nationality Act in refusing the visas, which requires U.S. officials to conduct a further review of the applicant. The policy does not affect people with dual nationalities who apply for a visa using a different passport.

The State Department began revoking and denying the visas of Palestinian officials last week ahead of the United Nations General Assembly this month. Earlier in August, the U.S. also said it would stop issuing visitor visas to Palestinians from Gaza, including those seeking humanitarian and medical treatment.

Palestinian passport holders—whether from Gaza, the Israeli-occupied West Bank, or elsewhere—will be impacted by the new measures. Palestinian Authority passports have been issued by the Palestinian Ministry of Interior, subject to Israeli approval, since 1995. It's unclear how many people hold Palestinian passports today.

Measures come as international condemnation of Israel grows

The directive comes as a growing number of countries have condemned Israel's ongoing military bombardment of Gaza and what several humanitarian organizations have described as a genocide.

The nearly two-year-long Israel-Hamas war has killed more than 60,000 Palestinians and nearly 2,000 Israelis (including those killed in the Oct. 7, 2023 Hamas attack on Israel), according to Gaza's Health Ministry and Israeli authorities. In the absence of independent monitoring on the ground, Gaza's Health Ministry is the primary source for casualty data relied upon by humanitarian groups, journalists, and international bodies. Its figures do not differentiate between civilians and combatants and cannot be independently verified by TIME. Data from the Israel Defense Forces indicates a Palestinian civilian death rate of 83%. The figure for Israeli casualties includes both civilians and combatants.

Several U.S. allies have criticized Israel over its killing of aid seekers, humanitarian workers, and journalists, as well as its blockade of humanitarian aid and forced displacement of Palestinians. Canada, France, and the U.K., said in July that they will recognize a Palestinian state at the upcoming U.N. General Assembly—with more countries following suit—prompting condemnations from Israel and the U.S., Israel's biggest ally.

The Trump Administration has also cracked down on pro-Palestinian activism across the U.S., including introducing new immigration and citizenship restrictions that include screening for "anti-Americanism" and targeting pro-Palestinian student activists for immigration action, which critics say has chilled free speech.

"Every visa decision is a national security decision, and the State Department is vetting and adjudicating visa decisions for PA passport holders accordingly," a State Department spokesperson told CNN. But not everyone accepts that pretense.

"Are there true national security concerns?" Kerry Doyle, former lead attorney for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement under the Biden Administration, questioned to the Times. "Or is it politically based to support the position of Israel and/or to avoid uncomfortable issues being raised when folks get here if they speak out about the issues over the war?"

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — A strong earthquake in eastern Afghanistan near the Pakistan border has killed at least 250 people and injured at least 500 others, officials said.

The quake late Sunday hit a series of towns in the province of Kunar, near the city of Jalalabad in neighboring Nangahar province. The 6.0 magnitude at 11:47 p.m. was centered 27 kilometers (17 miles) east-northeast of the city of Jalalabad in Nangarhar province, the U.S. Geological Survey said. It was just 8 kilometers (5 miles) deep. Shallower quakes tend to cause more damage.

The Kunar Disaster Management Authority said in a statement that at least 250 people were killed and 500 others injured in the districts of Nur Gul, Soki, Watpur, Manogi and Chapadare.

Jalalabad is a bustling trade city due to its proximity with neighboring Pakistan and a key border crossing between the countries. Although it has a population of about 300,000 according to the municipality, it's metropolitan area is thought to be far larger. Most of its buildings are low-rise constructions, mostly of concrete and brick, and its outlying areas include homes built of mud bricks and wood. Many are of poor construction.

Jalalabad also has considerable agriculture and farming, including citrus fruit and rice, with the Kabul River flowing through the city.

A magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck Afghanistan on Oct. 7, 2023, followed by strong aftershocks. The Taliban government estimated at least 4,000 people perished.

The U.N. gave a far lower death toll of about 1,500. It was the deadliest natural disaster to strike Afghanistan in recent memory.

LONDON (AP) — When pop groups and rock bands practice or perform, they rely on their guitars, keyboards and drumsticks to make music. Oliver McCann, a British AI music creator who goes by the stage name imoliver, fires up his chatbot.

McCann's songs span a range of genres, from indie-pop to electro-soul to country-rap. There's just one crucial difference between McCann and traditional musicians.

"I have no musical talent at all," he said. "I can't sing, I can't play instruments, and I have no musical background at all."

McCann, 37, who has a background as a visual designer, started experimenting with AI to see if it could boost his creativity and "bring some of my lyrics to life." Last month, he signed with independent record label Hallwood Media after one of his tracks racked up 3 million streams, in what's billed as the first time a music label has inked a contract with an AI music creator.

McCann is an example of how ChatGPT-style AI song generation tools like Suno and Udio have spawned a wave of synthetic music. A movement most notably highlighted by a fictitious group, Velvet Sundown, that went viral even though all its songs, lyrics and album art were created by AI.

It fueled debate about AI's role in music while raising fears about "AI slop" — automatically generated low quality mass produced content. It also cast a spotlight on AI song generators that are democratizing song making but threaten to disrupt the music industry.

Experts say generative AI is set to transform the music world. However, there are scant details, so far, on how it's impacting the $29.6 billion global recorded music market, which includes about $20 billion from streaming.

The most reliable figures come from music streaming service Deezer, which estimates that 18% of songs uploaded to its platform every day are purely AI generated, though they only account for a tiny amount of total streams, hinting that few people are actually listening. Other, bigger streaming platforms like Spotify haven't released any figures on AI music.

Udio declined to comment on how many users it has and how many songs it has generated. Suno did not respond to a request for comment. Both have free basic levels as well as pro and premium tiers that come with access to more advanced AI models.

"It's a total boom. It's a tsunami," said Josh Antonuccio, director of Ohio University's School of Media Arts and Studies. The amount of AI generated music "is just going to only exponentially increase" as young people grow up with AI and become more comfortable with it, he said.

Yet generative AI, with its ability to spit out seemingly unique content, has divided the music world, with musicians and industry groups complaining that recorded works are being exploited to train AI models that power song generation tools.

Record labels are trying to fend off the threat that AI music startups pose to their revenue streams even as they hope to tap into it for new earnings, while recording artists worry that it will devalue their creativity.

Three major record companies, Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group and Warner Records, filed lawsuits last year against Suno and Udio for copyright infringement. In June, the two sides also reportedly entered negotiations that could go beyond settling the lawsuits and set rules for how artists are paid when AI is used to remix their songs.

GEMA, a German royalty collection society, has sued Suno, accusing it of generating music similar to songs like "Mambo No. 5" by Lou Bega and "Forever Young" by Alphaville.

More than 1,000 musicians, including Kate Bush, Annie Lennox and Damon Albarn, released a silent album to protest proposed changes to U.K. laws on AI they fear would erode their creative control. Meanwhile, other artists, such as will.i.am, Timbaland and Imogen Heap, have embraced the technology.

Some users say the debate is just a rehash of old arguments about once-new technology that eventually became widely used, such as AutoTune, drum machines and synthesizers.

People complain "that you're using a computer to do all the work for you. I don't see it that way. I see it as any other tool that we have," said Scott Smith, whose AI band, Pulse Empire, was inspired by 1980s British synthesizer-driven groups like New Order and Depeche Mode.

Smith, 56 and a semi-retired former U.S. Navy public affairs officer in Portland, Oregon, said "music producers have lots of tools in their arsenal" to enhance recordings that listeners aren't aware of.

Like McCann, Smith never mastered a musical instrument. Both say they put lots of time and effort into crafting their music.

Once Smith gets inspiration, it takes him just 10 minutes to write the lyrics. But then he'll spend as much as eight to nine hours generating different versions until the song "matches my vision."

McCann said he'll often create up to 100 different versions of a song by prompting and re-prompting the AI system before he's satisfied.

AI song generators can churn out lyrics as well as music, but many experienced users prefer to write their own words.

"AI lyrics tend to come out quite cliche and quite boring," McCann said.

Lukas Rams, a Philadelphia-area resident who makes songs for his AI band Sleeping With Wolves, said AI lyrics tend to be "extra corny" and not as creative as a human, but can help get the writing process started.

"It'll do very basic rhyme schemes, and it'll keep repeating the same structure," said Rams, who writes his own words, sometimes while putting his kids to bed and waiting for them to fall asleep. "And then you'll get words in there that are very telling of AI-generated lyrics, like 'neon,' anything with 'shadows'."

Rams used to play drums in high school bands and collaborated with his brother on their own songs, but work and family life started taking up more of his time.

Then he discovered AI, which he used to create three albums for Sleeping With Wolves. He's been taking it seriously, making a CD jewel case with album art. He plans to post his songs, which combine metalcore and EDM, more widely online.

"I do want to start putting this up on YouTube or socials or distribution or whatever, just to have it out there," Rams said. "I might as well, otherwise I'm literally the only person that hears this stuff."

Experts say AI's potential to let anyone come up with a hit song is poised to shake up the music industry's production pipeline.

"Just think about what it used to cost to make a hit or make something that breaks," Antonuccio said. "And that just keeps winnowing down from a major studio to a laptop to a bedroom. And now it's like a text prompt — several text prompts."

But he added that AI music is still in a "Wild West" phase because of the lack of legal clarity over copyright. He compared it to the legal battles more than two decades ago over file-sharing sites like Napster that heralded the transition from CDs to digital media and eventually paved the way for today's music streaming services.

Creators hope AI, too, will eventually become a part of the mainstream music world.

"I think we're entering a world where anyone, anywhere could make the next big hit," said McCann. "As AI becomes more widely accepted among people as a musical art form, I think it opens up the possibility for AI music to be featured in charts."
