Grace Van Patten's parents, Timothy "Tim" Van Patten and Wendy Rossmeyer Van Patten, have supported her acting career from the start.
Tim, an Emmy-winning director best known for The Sopranos and Game of Thrones, passed on his passion for television to his daughter. He and Wendy raised Grace in New York City, where she spent much of her childhood on his sets, per Vanity Fair.
When Grace was a teenager, Tim and Wendy encouraged her to audition for the N.Y.C.'s LaGuardia High School, which focuses on the performing arts, the actress told Interview in May 2017. That decision paid off: She's built a successful career as an actress, starring in series like Tell Me Lies, Nine Perfect Strangers and, most recently, The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox, in which she plays the titular character.
During a January 2023 interview on the Hollywood Beginnings podcast, Tim said his daughter learned to love Hollywood through "osmosis."
"You are being exposed to something that's pretty freaking cool," he said. "The world of entertainment and creativity is an addictive thing."

Tim and Wendy welcomed Grace on Nov. 21, 1996, in N.Y.C. She is the oldest of their three daughters.
Anna is two years younger than Grace, per Interview. June, meanwhile, was born in 2011, according to Wendy's Instagram.
Like their father and older sister, Anna and June are in the entertainment industry. Anna is a model and actress known for the Gossip Girl reboot and FBI: Most Wanted. June, on the other hand, made her acting debut in the 2020 short film, Youngest.
In September 2021, Wendy shared a sweet photo of her three daughters walking hand-in-hand.
"So blessed," she wrote in her caption. "Happy National Daughters Day!"

Tim and Wendy raised Grace in N.Y.C.'s Tribeca neighborhood before the family moved to Brooklyn in 2014, Grace told The Laterals in September 2021.
Growing up, Grace was "super into sports," so she wasn't necessarily interested in acting, she told Interview in May 2017. But her parents encouraged her to take advantage of N.Y.C.'s arts opportunities.
"My parents were the ones who were like, 'Just audition for LaGuardia,' " she recalled. "I'm so happy I went there. It was a passion pit for all of these kids who are so inspiring and talented, and the teachers there were amazing. I learned so much."

Grace grew up going to the set of The Sopranos, and the show was her first-ever acting gig. When she was 8 years old, she portrayed Ally Pontecorvo in the season 6 episode "Members Only," which was directed by her father.
Grace has said that seeing the "action" on a set made her interested in acting herself. "That's what really intrigued me ... watching these amazing actors doing what they do best," she told Interview. "That definitely clicked the passion in for me."
However, being exposed to Hollywood at a young age made Grace understand that the industry isn't "all glamor," she told British Vogue in August 2021.
"I saw the stress and unpredictability that comes with it firsthand, so I feel lucky every time I get to act — you never know what can happen in this line of work," she said. "I never expected any sort of lavish lifestyle, which I think has done some damage control."

Growing up, Wendy was a model. She got her first gig at just 14 years old for Vogue, per the Los Angeles Times.
"I'll never be really thin," she told the outlet in August 1987. "[I have] too much muscle. I ride my bike everywhere, play volleyball, tennis and water-ski."
However, Wendy underwent a career shift in 2009, when her father, Bruce Rossmeyer, died in a motorcycle accident, per Cyril Huze. At that time, Wendy started taking an "active part in business decisions" involving her family's 13 Harley Davidson dealerships located across five different states.
When Grace appeared on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast in September 2024, she confirmed that her mom is a "biker chick." The Tell Me Lies star explained, "She was a model and now works in her family business, which is Harley Davidson motorcycles."

Grace's dad got his start in the industry as an actor, portraying Mario Pettrino in the TV series The White Shadow (1978-1981). His other acting credits include Class of 1984 (1982), The Master (1984) and True Blue (1989-1990).
When Tim transitioned to directing, he tapped into a different set of instincts.
"I think my life experience informs my directing much more than my acting skills," he told the Television Academy Foundation in September 2011. "I think I know how to put an actor at ease, I don't know the language, if there is a language, but I think every actor comes to the set with their own needs and then you have to handle them accordingly."
