Carson Daly Reveals How 'The Voice' Is Rallying Around Kelly Clarkson and Reba McEntire After Brandon Blackstock's Death originally appeared on Parade.
The Voice host Carson Daly is sharing how the show is supporting judges Kelly Clarkson and Reba McEntire following the death of Brandon Blackstock at the age of 48 from skin cancer.
"It's been tough," Daly told Us Weekly at the opening night of Broadway's Jeff Ross: Take a Banana for the Ride in New York City on Monday, August 18. "We all knew Brandon well, and we are a family."
The show is currently filming its 28th season where McEntire, Blackstock's former stepmother, will be a judge. Clarkson, who was married to the late talent manager from 2013-2022, was a judge on seasons 14-21, 23, and will return for season 29.
"I was working with [McEntire] last week, everything was fresh, so we've just been sending our prayers and support to them," Daly continued. "It's a terrible situation."
Daly's wife, Siri Pinter, also chimed in, "The Voice has always been a huge family-first atmosphere. Our kids were even raised there."
"It's really no different than what you would do for your family members," Daly concluded. "You let them know you're there, you're praying for them [and] you're giving them space at the same time."

Blackstock is survived by his four children, two with Clarkson, River, 11 and Remington, 9, and Savannah and Seth from a previous marriage.
His family shared the news of his death on August 7 via a statement.
"It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away," a rep for the family said in a statement. "Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time."
