Get ready to zoom into the space age — *The Jetsons* are set to make a comeback, with a beloved comic leading the way.

** has learned that Jim Carrey is in talks to lead a live-action adaptation of *The Jetsons *at Warner Bros. Pictures, with *Jurassic World: Dominion* director Colin Trevorrow tapped to direct. No storyline was revealed, nor was Carrey's role specified, though the original animated series largely revolved around next-century everyman George Jetson, known for spouting catchphrases like, "Hooba-dooba-dooba!" and "Jane! Stop this crazy thing!"

*The Wrap* was first to report on Carrey's involvement, noting that Trevorrow is also in talks to pen the script with Joe Epstein, who recently served as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner of HBO's scandalous drama, *The Idol*.

For the uninitiated, *The Jetsons* hails from lauded animators William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, whose studio is behind such lasting titles as Tom & Jerry, *The Flintstones*, *Scooby-Doo*, *The Smurfs*, and *Yogi Bear*. The classic cartoon follows the lives of George and Jane Jetson, their children Judy and Elroy, their dog Astro, and their robot maid, Rosie the Robot.

The family lives in the space-age styled Orbit City, where they enjoy technical innovations that were wildly futuristic when *The Jetsons* debuted in 1962 — think video chat, flying cars, smart homes, 3D printers, and domesticated robots.

Starring George O'Hanlon, Penny Singleton, Daws Butler, Janet Waldo, Don Messick, and Jean Vander Pyl, the series initially ran from 1962-1963 before it was revived in 1985 for 51 more episodes. It was notably one of the first shows that ABC broadcast in color, amidst an era of largely black-and-white TV programs.

The last *Jetsons* feature film was the 1990 animated title,* Jetsons: The Movie*. A live-action version of the Hanna-Barbera classic has been attempted several times over the years, but has never been produced. Directors, including Adam Shankman, Robert Rodriguez, and Conrad Verno, have previously been attached to now-scrapped projects.

Back in 2017, ABC ordered a pilot for a live-action *Jetsons* television series from executive producer Robert Zemeckis. The multi-cam sitcom, set 100 years in the future to give the show a more modern lens, was never ordered to series.

As for the futuristic nuclear family, they've recently appeared in their own 2017 direct-to-video special, *The Jetsons & WWE: Robo-WrestleMania!*, games including *The Jetsons: Cogswell's Caper!* and *The Jetsons: Invasion of the Planet Pirates*, and briefly showed up in *Space Jam: A New Legacy*.
